VIDEO Bob Costas Gives An NBC Halftime Lecture On Banning Guns In The Aftermath Of The Jevon Belcher Murder/Suicide

While decompressing from politics after being told Sunday by the mainstream media, including NBC’s Meet The Press, that those pesky republicans were “holding America hostage” for agreeing to tax increases but refusing Obama’s Treasury boy’s message of $50 Billion in stimulus to avoid the fiscal cliff, I was watching a sub par football game between the Eagles and Cowboys. The talk of the Kansas City Chief Jevon Belch murder suicide Saturday morning had been discussed by the media and morning football pundits, but the discussion seemed to be waning until halftime of NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Wee Man Bob Costas apparently felt compelled to give his two cents worth and said the following”

In the aftermath of the nearly unfathomable events in Kansas City, that most mindless of sports clichés was heard yet again: something like this really puts it all in perspective. Well, if so, that sort of perspective has a very short shelf-life since we will inevitably hear about the perspective we have supposedly again regained the next time ugly reality intrudes upon our games.

Please, those who need tragedies to continually recalibrate their sense of proportion about sports would seem to have little hope of ever truly achieving perspective. You want some actual perspective on this?

Well, a bit of it comes from the Kansas City-based writer Jason Whitlock with whom I do not always agree, but who today said it so well that we may as well just quote or paraphrase from the end of his article.

“Our current gun culture,” Whitlock wrote, “ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead.”

“Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it. In the coming days, Jovan Belcher’s actions, and their possible connection to football, will be analyzed. Who knows?”

“But here,” wrote Jason Whitlock, “is what I believe: If Jovan Belcher didn’t possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.”

This weapons grade stupid made Twitter come alive with people weighing in on the moronic liberal ideology of: If not for the gun the murder never would have happened. And alpha males who are typically conservative, many times hunters and likely 2nd amendment advocates, not dead fish beta males like MSNBC’s Chris Hayes who was likely catching up on Bravo’s The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills, had to sit through Costas Logic on why the gun is to blame for doing the unthinkable, not the murderer.

A Couple Of My Immediate Thoughts Via Twitter

Something liberals will never understand is the bad guys will find guns or use what is available to commit violent acts or murder while responsible citizens arming themselves makes for safer cities and suburbs. One need look no further than the ban on guns in Chicago and the out of control murder rate by…. hand guns.

This was football night, even someone like me who always has my mind on politics really wanted to relax, rest and get ready for my week. But alas, another liberal found his way into my living room preaching flawed leftist logic, this time it was Bob Costas telling the wrong audience guns are the evil that left a three month old orphaned, not an depraved murdering psychopath.
